Mom
and Dad introduced one of their favorite coastal activities to the kids -- tide pooling
(looking at sea life left in the rocks when the tide goes out). |
There are many places to explore tide pools along the
coast. We visited one of the better ones in the area at Cabrillo National Park in
Point Loma. |
We
found hermit crabs, "regular" crabs of all sizes, snails, and other neat
creatures. |
From the monument area you can look into the bay. If you
follow the far edges of the bay from left to right, you'll see Shelter Island (where our
hotel was), the airport, and downtown San Diego. In the foreground at the right is
the Navy air base on Coronado island. |
We spent some fun time
with hotel neighbors Ty & Caroline (and parents John & Jamie). |
Our hotel balcony
looked out on the bay and the jet skis, sailboats, power boats, and Navy ships cruised by. |
Look closely at right to see Eddie's
quarterback form as Nika prepares for the catch. The parking lot sure emptied out
from the holiday weekend before! |
Alli
hammed it up at the Museum of Natural History's "Dogs" exhibit. Meanwhile,
Eddie met with a museum paleontologist to learn if what he'd found at the beach was an
actual fossil (the best guess was a volcanic rock). |
After a rather long
walk for what ended up as a great dinner, we enjoyed an evening Celtic concert at the
Balboa Park's Organ Pavillion. |
