For
Dad's birthday weekend, we took an overnight trip to West Virginia. Originally
planned as a biking trip, the rain kept us to walking the muddy but fun C&O canal. |
Here's Nika waving to a train going over the Potomac River into
Virginia from Sheperdstown, West Virginia (where our hotel was). It's Dad's theory
that the height of the tracks (100 feet?) equal the depth of the valley -- is he right? |
We walked along the rocky river's edge, threw some stones, and
generally got pretty muddy :-) The bridge in the background is route 34 that we
drove over to our hotel. |
Alli and Eddie show off their rock climbing skills (Nika had
already scaled the wall at this point). When attempting to tackle an even larger
wall, Eddie got stung by a bee :-( Ouch! |
The hotel had a full-size gym with jogging track and basketball.
Here Nika's in top gear with Eddie closing in from behind. |
No
visit to West Virginia is complete without a trip to Summit Point Raceway. |
Friend
Jeff met us at the track and brought along bat, ball, and helmet. |
Alli and Peter are some pretty cute outfielders, wouldn't you say? |
Here
we are by the timing tower (good views of the front straight). Dad had another group
photo with Veronika in it but accidentally deleted it -- sorry, Nika! |
The kids found this neat rock that is curiously shaped like an
elephant head. See it? |
Eddie
never thought we'd keep this silly photo, did ya buddy? |
Alli
and Mom in the stands overlooking the carousel (turns 5, 6, 7, and 8 -- or something like
that). |
Watching cars coming down the front straight for the
checkered flag. The end of a great weekend! |
