Eddie and Dad took a trip with friends
Billy and daughter Caitlyn (from NJ) to Lime Rock Park, a road course in southwestern
Connecticut. |
Ahh, there's nothing like the sound of racecars in the
morning. |
After some mulling, we picked the perfect campsite in
the infield. |
Eddie and Dad thoroughly enjoyed camping. Here, Eddie shows
how our flashlights can work as lanterns, or pretend they're bithday candles :) |
As much fun as it is to watch a race, it's nearly as fun to
appreciate the cars that people drive to it. Here is a fine MGA. |
Caitlyn & Eddie really enjoyed Lime Rock Park. Though it
didn't have swings like a "park" should Eddie said, there's lots of room to run
& play. |
It's
great walking through the paddock and being able to get up close to all the cars. It
reminded Eddie of driving go-karts on his 4th birthday. |
It's amazing the amount of work that goes into
maintaining a competitive car. |
When visiting Aunt Patty after the race,
Eddie had her try his ear protectors on and asked if she could hear the racecars :) |
Bill's Dad brought him to this track when
he was a little kid, and he proudly carries on the tradition. Maybe someday he'll be here
to help prepare Caitlyn's racecar. |
The inside rear wheel of
this Mini begins to come off the ground on this 70 mph right-hander. |
An instant later the Mini is on two wheels!
Yanking the wheel toward the ground, he brings it back on all fours and spins out in the
grass (soon resuming the race :) |
One of the nicest things about amateur racers is how
approachable they are. Here the Mini's driver (left) discusses his escapade with
some boy scouts. |
The dragging spoiler (from a accident on a earlier
lap) probably had a bit to do with putting the Mini on two wheels.. |
Simplicity & reliability, along with plenty of spare parts,
make a car competitive for a long time, like this early 70's BMW 2002. |
The last race of the day is often the most fun to watch as the
drivers' adrenalin is high and the sun low (and in their eyes). |
Eddie & Caitlyn play on 'Jungle Bill', possibly
justifying the 'park' in 'Lime Rock Park'. |
Stopping in New Jersey, Eddie & Dad watched
cousins Teddy (shown here) & Rusty play soccer. Uncle Chip is coach. |
Aunt Patty and cousin
Sara Beth brought us lunch before our long trip home :-) Eddie enjoyed Sunday school
with cousin Bernadette as his teacher. We also got to see a golf pro in-the-making,
cousin Billy Barry and his 5 brothers and sisters. Next time we'll get pictures of
the whole Barry family! |
More fun than anything, was the time that Dad &
Eddie spent together. Eddie, though, would probably say Teddy's Star Wars game (in
his hand) was a close second :) |
